Diversity Goals Feature

Why did we make this feature?

At Hired, we strive to make the hiring process more equitable and inclusive by helping employers build diverse teams. The EEOC’s published EEO-1 data highlights underrepresented candidates in the tech industry. We make it easier for employers to find such candidates in the recruiting process while still making lawful hiring decisions without regard to race, gender, etc. We are honored to use our recruiting platform to help bridge the gap and help underrepresented candidates find their dream job with inclusive teams who make DEIB a priority.

How does it work?

Instead of combing through pages of search results only to be left wondering if your candidate pool has any underrepresented candidates or worse, guessing about a candidate’s race or gender, we make it easy to surface underrepresented candidates to the top of your search, saving you time. Simply navigate to your filters on the left hand side of a Position and click “Diversity Goals” to expand the filter. Then check the box next to “Help me find underrepresented candidates.” Candidates who voluntarily self-report their gender and racial demographic information and are designated underrepresented by the EEOC will then be surfaced to the top of your results. Other qualified candidates will always be included in your search.

What if the search result has no/low number of underrepresented candidates when DEIB feature is on?

In this scenario you will see a DEIB suggestion box that will list some changes to the search filters that you could incorporate to increase the number of underrepresented candidates in the result set. This suggestion box will only show up at the top of the results page if there are no underrepresented candidates and below the last underrepresented candidate should there be at least 1 result.

Where does the candidate data come from?

We leverage our strong relationships with our candidates and give them the opportunity to provide us with EEO data through an optional survey. We do not have to rely on inferred demographic data; rather, we allow candidates to represent themselves through self-identification.

Who does the EEOC define as underrepresented?

The EEOC defines all non male genders as underrepresented in the tech industry in the US. According to the EEOC Diversity in High Tech Special Report, women account for 36% of the workforce in the High Tech industry versus 48% in the private sector as a whole.  Referencing the same report, the EEOC defines underrepresented races/ ethnicities in the Tech industry as Black or African American, Hispanic, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and Two or more races. The “Diversity Goals” feature follows these guidelines to define underrepresentation on Hired.

How is the candidate demographic data being stored?

Hired is committed to protecting the security of candidate’s personal information. We use a variety of industry-standard security technologies and procedures to help protect candidate data from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. You can read more about our privacy policy here.

How is Hired matching underrepresented candidates to my search?

Underrepresented candidates are already in most employers' searches! It is simply time consuming to find them. With this feature, we simply shift the ordering of the list so that underrepresented candidates are surfaced to the top of the list, while never excluding any otherwise qualified candidates. All underrepresented candidates who are moved to the top of your search results will match all of the position requirements on the job position. With this sorting feature, you can ensure underrepresented candidates are being considered in your selection process and then proceed with making hiring decisions without regard to race, gender or any other immutable characteristic.

Is there Artificial Intelligence (AI) involved?

No! While we use AI to match candidates with your positions, this feature doesn’t rely on AI to infer any candidates’ personal demographics or match you with underrepresented candidates.

How can I access this feature?

The Diversity Goals feature is available to our customers in the U.S., UK, Canada, and Ireland - seeking to fill tech positions (includes remote positions too!).
